Who we are
What if they built a church...
without dogmatic authorities, without hierarchies, with acceptance of wide-ranging opinion, with complete respect for the freedom of conscience of every member?
with love for God and our neighbors and a sense of Christian responsibility- for fairness, justice, openness, and the inclusion of all God's children?
with love and study of the scriptures, without using the Bible as a tool of coercion or a proof-text for narrow minded dogma?
with serious spiritual commitment and loving community, setting out together on a pilgrimage of faith?
If we build such a church with God's guidance, we believe you will come.

Leader Bio:
The Reverend Dr. Kenneth Baily, Senior Pastor, was called to NHCC in the spring of 2002. He grew up in Pennsylvania and Maine, attended college at Vassar, divinity school at Yale, and completed his master's in public administration at Harvard. In May of 2006 he was awarded his Doctor of Ministry by Hartford Seminary; his dissertation focuses on types of congregational leadership. Early part-time work as a carpenter and lobsterman has influenced the way that he has served churches in Maine (Yarmouth), Massachusetts (South Hadley), and Connecticut (West Hartford). Earlier, he served as a legislative aide, speechwriter, and lobbyist in Maine. Baily's post-graduate work has focused on counseling, healing, and in particular on conflict resolution. He was awarded the Mersick Prize for excellence in preaching by Yale University. He has traveled (and especially eaten!) on several continents and holds particular commitments to mission, stewardship, Bible study, and youth activities.

Newton Highlands Congregational Church Service Times
Join us for worship
Sundays at 10 AM
(9:30 AM beginning Jul 3)
Child care and Children's programming every Sunday
Each Sunday at 10 AM we gather to praise God through a blend of modern and traditional forms of worship. Coming from diverse faith traditions, we discover God's word in music, prayer, and preaching and relate it to the concerns of our lives and our world. It is a time of nurture and challenge, of sharing and contemplation. Services are enriched by our organ and choir music.
Holy Communion is generally celebrated on the first Sunday of each month but with some variation for special days in the church calendar or practical reasons.
It's been more than 6 years since the last service times update. Please make sure to contact the church to confirm service times.

Lord Jesus, thou who art the way, the truth, and the life; hear us as we pray for the truth that shall make all free. Teach us that liberty is not only to be loved but also to be lived. Liberty is too precious a thing to be buried in books. It costs too much to be hoarded. Help us see that our liberty is not the right to do as we please, but the opportunity to please to do what is right.
