Perinton Presbyterian Church History
Perinton Presbyterian Church was chartered by the Presbytery of Genesee Valley on September 18, 1983, with 96 members. The church was formed after a survey conducted by the Presbytery determined support for a Presbyterian church in the Fairport/Perinton area.
The church has been well served by two Senior Pastors:
The founding pastor, The Reverend David Gellert from 1983-1995 The Reverend Steven Becker from 1996-2017
And, several Associate Pastors:
The Reverend Barbara Tobin from 1991-2000 The Reverend Ed Bonner from 2002-20012 The Reverend Danny Peters since 2014
Originally, worship services and church school were held in the Fairport Masonic Hall. In 1985, 6511 Pittsford-Palmyra Road was selected as the location for a church building. The congregation joyfully moved into this centrally located and visible building on July 10, 1988. In September of 2008 the congregation celebrated its 25th anniversary and dedicated the newly expanded facility.
The growth of Perinton Presbyterian Church during the past 31 years has been exciting. Christian Education is a vital and active part of our church life, encompassing church school, junior and senior high fellowship, and adult education classes. We are blessed musically by an outstanding adult choir directed by Don Besig, a wonderful pianist, a wonderful bell choir, and many gifted individual musicians. Social events for all ages take place throughout the year. Small groups gather for mutual support, Bible study, and fellowship around a variety of interests. These activities bring our church together as a family in Christ. Being well nurtured and encouraged we then, with our dollars and many helpful hands, reach out to serve those in our community and places far beyond.
We are ever excited by the calling of God and by the joy that is ours as we continue to grow and serve in Christ’s name and by the power of his Holy Spirit.
