Holy Week 2025 at Pleasant Hill
Palm Sunday, April 13
8:45 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.
April 13 is Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week this year. Each of the services will include a remembrance of the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.
Maundy Thursday Service, April 17
7:00 p.m.
Using poignant passages of scripture and meaningful music, this narrative-style service will retell the events in the Upper Room with Jesus and his followers and their departure into the Garden of Gethsemane. Our time together will include Holy Communion, open to all, a moment of foot washing by Pastor Pete of all those willing to participate (not required), the traditional stripping of the chancel, and a time of nailing our burdens to the cross of Christ (also optional) with us leaving in silence.
Good Friday Tenebrae Service, April 18
7:00 p.m.
With chairs in the Family Life Center arranged in concentric circles around the crucifix, we will gather as witnesses to the suffering and death of Christ on the cross. Readings from the Gospel according to John, the extinguishing of candles, the sound of the gong, and haunting music will allow all of us to appreciate the extent of Christ's love for us.
Solemn Saturday, April 19
(Prayer Vigil - Virtual / In-Person)
Response to Jesus' question, 'Couldn't you keep watch with me for one hour?' By committing to pray for one hour during the vigil on Solemn Saturday.
Resurrection Sunday, April 20
6:30 a.m., 8:45 a.m., 11:00 a.m.
Easter is the most significant milestone in the church calendar. Easter marks the resurrection of Jesus, which is the event that 'changes everything.' Easter Sunday, or Resurrection Sunday, will start with a sunrise service on the front lawn as news that the grave is empty comes from the cemetery. Services at 6:30 a.m., 8:45 a.m., and 11 a.m. will pronounce that Christ is risen, Christ is risen indeed. Bring your flowers and place them on the Resurrection Cross.
