And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

Power House Baptist Church History
Power House Missionary Baptist Church was organized Nov. 29, 1949 by seven members. The original church building was located on 13th North Street and overlooked the Morristown Power Station. James Dalton donated the property as a gift for the purpose of “seeing a church at that location.” This was seemingly an odd request from a man whose occupation was bootlegging.
The church membership grew through the 1950s under the leadership of Rev. Garnie Bell. After building onto the original building already, the church realized the need for a larger building in 1954 and acquired the property on McFarland Street. L.W. and Sarah Vandergriff owned the property, which was being used by Lynn Heights Baptist Church, however, that church was disbanding. The Vandergriffs sold their land to Power House Baptist Church on Aug. 28, 1954. The purchase was finalized on Feb. 12, 1955 for the sum of $7,590.

Teach me, O God, to use all the circumstances of my life to-day that they may bring forth in me the fruits of holiness rather than the fruits of sin. Let me use disappointment as material for patience: Let me use success as material for thankfulness: Let me use suspence as material for perseverance: Let me use danger as material for courage: Let me use reproach as material for longsuffering: Let me use praise as material for humility: Let me use pleasures as material for temperance: Let me use pains as material for endurance.
