Who we are
Community of St Finnian of Clonard, Belfast
We are a Eucharistic Community within the Diocese of Sourozh of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Great Britain and Ireland. Our hierarch is his Eminence Archbishop Elisey of Sourozh and our priest is Father George Zavershinsky, who is also the Dean of Northern Ireland appointed by Archbishop Elisey.
Our parish was founded in 2008 by Fr George Zavershinsky, then of the Russian Orthodox parish of St Peter and St Paul in Dublin, with the blessing of Archbishop Elisey. We meet on average once a month for a celebration of the Divine Liturgy. Our services are held in a mixture of Church Slavonic and English. All interested persons are welcome to attend our services, but only Orthodox Christians may receive Holy Communion.
In common with the rest of the Russian Orthodox Church we follow the traditional Church calendar. In practice this means that there is a 13 day difference between our feast days and those in the Gregorian calendar which is used by secular society. For example, the Orthodox Christmas is celebrated on the 7th of January in the Gregorian calendar, which is the 25th of December in the Church calendar.

В нашем приходе православные разных национальностей. Богослужения в основном проходят в форме литургии на церковно-славянском и английском языках. Вместе с русской православной церковью мы придерживаемся традиционного церковного календаря. Мы приглащаем всех желающих на богослужение, но хотим предупредить, что только православные могут быть допущены ко святому причастию. Наши богослужения проходят в церкви Святого Георгия (церковь Ирландии), расположенной на Хай стрит в центре Белфаста. Машины можно парковать внутри церковной ограды.
