Who we are

St Philip the Apostle Orthodox Mission is a community in the Archdiocese of Canada of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA).

In October of 1999, our first Divine Liturgy service was celebrated by Fr Dennis Pihach and Dn Andrew Piasta at the Stanford Inn Hotel in Grande Prairie. Our next service was celebrated in November of 1999 again with Fr Dennis and Dn Andrew in the chapel of Northern Funeral Alternatives, which serves as our present place of gathering.

Over the past year, the parish, through the efforts of the members, has put together a complete chapel (Altar table, tetrapod, icons, etc) as well as vestments and vessles necessary to celebrate Divine Liturgy.

The future of the community is to continue to meet at this chapel with the below-mentioned clergy serving. And with God’s grace that we can someday have a church.

The power of Christian prayer Light of the World
Jesus, the Light of the World, as we celebrate your birth... may we begin to see the world in the light of understanding you give us. As you chose the lowly, the outcasts, and the poor to receive the greatest news the world had ever known, so may we worship you in meekness of heart. May we also remember our brothers and sisters less fortunate than ourselves in this season of giving. Amen.
