Who we are

Mission and Vision:

As followers of Jesus Christ, we gather to encourage, equip and strengthen one another in our common commitment to Christ and His mission in our community and in the world. We pledge ourselves to study the Scriptures faithfully and to use the sacraments diligently in order that we may give ourselves to Christ's mission of serving all of our fellow humans in their needs and of proclaiming to them the forgiveness and freedom of God in Christ Jesus.

How do we put our mission and vision to work?

When you join us in any function, whether it is in worship, Bible study, or any events such as the yard sale, lunches, craft sale, etc. you will find that this is a very warm and welcoming group. We do our best to connect with people, so that no one is lost in the crowd, but everyone feels and is a part of the body of Christ. We serve a great God, He has a great love for people, we do our best to show that great love to all the people we encounter.

We regularly meet for worship; where we receive God's forgiveness and encouragement that He is with us, He helps us in every situation, and He equips us all with many different gifts to share what Jesus has done for all people.

We regularly meet for Bible study to learn more about God's promises and His desire for how we live our lives. It's really cool to read about people from thousands of years ago, see what they struggled with (a lot of times we have the same struggles, we face the same issues as a society), and then see how God helped them in whatever situation they faced. We have an awesome God!

What is important to our church?

That people believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Our hope is that all people believe/trust that Jesus' death on the cross was the final and total payment for all of our sins and through His resurrection, He gives us new life. New life in eternity (heaven), living with God forever. But He also gives us a new life now. While we are broken, sinful people, we have God who is with us in this difficult life. He gives us promises that He will never leave us or forsake us. He is in full control of all things, and even though life gets really hard at times, even though the world may seem like it's going in a scary direction with wars and killings, God is still in control of it all. Which is an awesome promise, because we know through Jesus, it's all going to end up really good. We're going to be with God where there is no more death, no more sorrow, pain or suffering for all who believe/trust in Him. Our greatest promise is Jesus is coming, and He will restore everything that is broken. Jesus truly makes our lives better, because He makes us right with God. The promises that He gives are everlasting, they never change and they can never be taken away or undone.

There are a lot of people who think "Christians" or "believers" are naive, just hoping in something like the tooth ferry or santa clause, that God is the same as any of those, we just never get over our childhood beliefs. I am 100% convinced God is real. How do I know? We have the Bible that was written over a 1,600 year time period, with 36 different writers and 66 different books all saying the same message. When we find ancient artifacts, such as the dead sea scrolls, they verify that the same Bible we have today is the same Bible they had thousands of years before. Archaeolologists have found writings from Jesus' time period, and it says the same message as the Bible we have today. What other book has ever had such accuracy and held true over this long of a time period?

We can look at creation (the world around us) and all of the complexities of life. Some think that the world and life happened by chance. Look at the complexities of life. We are the only planet that is at just the right distance from the sun that we don't freeze or burn up. We have an atmosphere that protects us like a blanket, so we don't have drastic temperature swings. The moon that keeps our Earth tilted that maintains our seasons. When science shows us the complexities of all that is around us, it confirms that God created all of this. And the Bible tells us who God is and what He has done.

Ultimately, you are going to have to answer for yourself the question, where does your faith lie? What do you believe in? What do you trust? What happens after we die? John 11:25 "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?'"

John 3:16-17: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him."

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church History

The power of Christian prayer I ask for...
I ask you neither for health nor for sickness, for life nor for death; but that you may dispose of my health and my sickness, my life and my death, for your glory... You alone know what is expedient for me; you are the sovereign master, do with me according to your will. Give to me, or take away from me, only conform my will to yours. I know but one thing, Lord, that it is good to follow you, and bad to offend you. Apart from that, I know not what is good or bad in anything. I know not which is most profitable to me, health or sickness, wealth or poverty, nor anything else in the world. That discernment is beyond the power of men or angels, and is hidden among the secrets of your providence, which I adore, but do not seek to fathom.
