Who we are

We worship God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and share the Gospel with our community. We are old and young, married and single, local and visitor - but we are all beloved and saved by our Lord Jesus Christ and are discovering together how to share this good news with our community.

Music of the Day

Come, Holy Ghost, Creator, come

Come, Holy Ghost, Creator, come,
From thy bright heav?nly throne,
Come take possession of our souls,
And make them all thy own.

Thou who art called the Paraclete,
Best gift of God above,
The living spring, the living fire,
Sweet unction and true love.

Thou who art sevenfold in thy grace,
Finger of God?s right hand
His promise teaching little ones
To speak an understand.

O guide our minds with thy blessed light,
With love our hearts inflame;
And with thy strength, which never decays
Confirm our mortal frame.

Far from us drive our deadly foe;
True peach unto us bring;
And through all perils lead us safe
Beneath thy sacred wing.

Through thee may we the Father know,
Through thee the eternal Son,
And thee, the Spirit of them both,
Thrice-blessed Three in One.

All glory to the Father be,
With his coequal Son;
The same to thee, great Paraclete,
While endless ages run.

Amen. ...

Leader Bio:
Pastor Claudia grew up in the leafy suburbs of New York City and spent her first career working in publishing as a freelance editor and writer. That work led her to live in Hong Kong for six years, where she studied Chinese and wrote about business and technology. She has two grown sons, two wonderful daughter-in-laws, and the cutest grandson in the world.

Claudia’s faith in Christ came alive for her as an adult, and the priesthood was a calling she experienced in midlife. She received a master’s of divinity at Trinity School for Ministry, and completed her doctor of ministry degree at Trinity.

Claudia’s passion is about helping connect the richness of the Good News of Jesus with our everyday lives – our fears, our dreams, emotions and relationships.

She enjoys traveling, reading (fiction and non-fiction), attending movies and the theater, riding her bike, scuba, snorkeling, kayaking, and most things water-related. She has traveled to China, Singapore, England, Italy, and Africa and loves trying new foods. Since moving to the Laguna Madre area, she has added Texas BBQ, barbacoa, and Mexican bakeries to her favorites.   Edit

St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church History

St. Andrew’s by the Sea Episcopal Church was originally organized in 1955 at the request of a group of Episcopalians interested in having a church in the area in which they could worship and educate their children. With the assistance of local Valley clergy, the bishop was approached for permission to begin the process. He approved the endeavor, and on October 16, 1955 seven Episcopalians gathered at the home of Thelma Gambrell for Evening Prayer and an organizational meeting. The congregation then held their first local service at the American Legion Hall on October 23, 1955.

Local clergy from Brownsville and San Benito shared responsibility for services until the Reverend Branch was assigned as the church’s first vicar. Bishop Everett Jones named the church as a new mission of the diocese on March 19, 1956.

The first church structure was created in 1956 from some old World War II military barracks which were purchased and placed on a property belonging to Thelma Colley.

Our Story Continues

When Hurricane Beulah hit Port Isabel in 1967, the original church was completely destroyed. Following the storm, the present day site of St. Andrew’s was purchased with the assistance of a diocesan advance fund. The new building was dedicated by Bishop Harold Cornelious Gosnell and the vicar, The Reverend John Covey, on December 8, 1969. In the following decades, the parish hall and additional class rooms were added to the original structure as St. Andrew’s grew spiritually and physically. In 1997, under the leadership of The Reverend Max Reynolds, the church progressed from mission status to parish, as we remain to this day.
