Retreats:  St. Paul's offeres annual retreat programs, Labyrinth workshops and invited others to come and use St. Paul's as they explore the tin places tucked away on this island which is the Iona of Lake Erie.  See our web page for more information.
History:  This congregation was formed in 1864.  The people of South Bass island worked together with Jay Cooke, the financier of the Civil War, to construct a church building which was completed October 8th 1865.
The church has been continous use since then.  Today the parish continues to offer services for all who live and work here as well as all who visit in the summer months.
Stained Glass windows include an altar window by Francis D. Sweeney of Philadelphia - installed in 1902.
Bell - is a Meneely bell cast in Troy N.Y. in 1870.  There is a quote from a church member on page 94 of the book titled "Meneely & Company, Bell-founders, West Troy, N.Y. (opposite Troy)   By Meneely & company, inc., Watervliet, N.Y. which says:  Mr. W. E. Sibley, of Put-in-Bay, writes : " All seem pleased with the Bell, and I may say it gives entire satisfaction."  William Sibley was a long time member of the church and was the Jr. Warden at St. Paul's in 1866.  As an interesting note,  John Brown III, grandson of John Brown of Harpers Ferry fame, was the official bell ringer at St. Paul's for most of his life -- he was bell ringer were about 1900 to 1950.
Church Tour with guide - 9am TuesdaysGuided Church History Tour also available most days - just call ahead for an appointmentSelf Guided Tours available 9am - 4pm weekdays
For may years (1930s - 1970s) St. Paul's hosted the Wa-Li-Ro Boys Choir Camp
Caol Ait - In the Celtic tradition a Caol Ait is a place that gives us an opening into the magnificence and wonder of Devine Presence.  The Caol Ait, or "Thin Places"  are the spots where we see where Heaven and Earth comomg together.  St. Paul's parish knows there are Thin Places throughout the islands and we'd be happy to share them with you.  St. Paul's is the perfect spot for one day retreat groups.
There is a Celtic saying that heaven and earth are only three feet apart, but in the thin places that distance is even smaller. A thin place is where the veil that separates heaven and earth is lifted and one is able to receive a glimpse of the glory of God.
