Who we are

Communities of Hope - One Church in Six Places

Our vision is very simple. The Church is to be a community of hope. In our Team Ministry we meet in six different locations (our church buildings). Despite the images of beautiful church buildings, churches are actually communities of people. As people we all belong to the one Church, united in faith and purpose. We are thus One Church in Six Places. We are a family of people who buy into the bigger story of our world, and live their lives according to that story which is about God’s love for all people and all creation expressed through Jesus Christ.

Many people go through their lives believing the stories that the world tells about them – that they are never good enough, that they are victims of one thing or another, that they don’t look good enough, that they aren’t successful enough.

The church, as a community of hope, is made up of people who have chosen to believe the different story, the message of the church, that we are all valued and loved by a God who knows us and walks with us every moment. This story is a story of hope and it is a story in which everyone belongs, whatever their background, black, white, gay, straight, young or old.

Communities of hope are created as people follow the example of what Jesus did and taught his followers. This is where communities of hope find their purpose: they do as Jesus Christ did. To serve others, especially the vulnerable, weak and marginalised, and to share the message of good news. That good news is good news in every dimension of our lives. As communities of hope we are discovering that God is always present and often is in disguise! We find God when we speak to the person no one has time for, we find God in the outcast, the anxious, the sick, the person living with the stigma of a mental health diagnosis or of being a member of LBGT+ communities. We find God in the most unexpected places and people. God's B.I.G. love

God's love is big, expansive stretching to all people and all things.

God's love is inclusive and inviting. No one is outside its scope and embrace, whatever colour, creed, race; whether straight or gay, whatever your circumstances and background, we are all invited to be a part of a community of hope.

God's love is gracious, generous, going way beyond all reasonable bounds.

Communities of Hope are called to yield a rich harvest of this love in our own lives.

Music of the Day

I'm pressing on the upward way

I’m pressing on the upward way,
New heights I’m gaining every day;
Still praying as I’m onward bound,
“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.” ...

Leader Bio:
David came to be our Team Rector in October 2016. He moved here with his wife from Bermondsey in London where they had lived for 27 years. They have 3 grown up children. Whilst living in Bermondsey he worked as a church leader in Tower Bridge Road before Bermondsey is the trendy place it is today!

David started out in his career as a research scientist working in science on vaccine development, and also on HIV AIDS. He left science to work in overseas development for 20 years, working for a variety of organisations including Tearfund and USPG. David was ordained in 2013 at Southwark Cathedral.

'I am excited to be part of this great Team. Rugeley is a great place, the people are really friendly. The churches of the Team Ministry are communities of hope, places where anyone can find a welcome, a place of refuge, calm and prayer. We try hard to reflect the big, inviting and generous love of God'

Interests are: Riding his motorbike, gardening, walking, reading and going to the gym, and hanging out in Costa Coffee.

Craziest thing to ever happen to him: Having his car nicked by two members of the congregation (in London), while preaching a sermon! Nice feedback! The good thing was that the Met police recovered the car within the hour: A miracle!   Edit

The Church of the Good Shepherd History

Until the middle of the 19th Century Brereton and Rugeley were one parish and then became separate parishes but remained good neighbours. In more recent years the friendship between the two parishes matured into a number of areas of active co-operation and after 18 months of discussions it was decided that the parishes would be better equipped for service and mission by formally uniting as one. On 1st June 2006 the separate parishes of Rugeley and Brereton became officially the Parish Brereton and Rugeley. In September 2017 the neighbouring parish of Armitage with Handsacre become part of the Team Ministry.

The power of Christian prayer Forgive us
O God, forgive the poverty and the pettiness of our prayers . Listen not to our words but to the yearnings of our hearts. Hear beneath our petitions the crying of our need.
