Who we are
The Sisters of St. Margaret are a Religious Order of women in the Episcopal Church. Founded in England in 1855, the American House was established in 1873 in Boston. In 1903 the Sisters bought property in Duxbury on the South Shore of Massachussetts and ran a guest house and summer camp for girls for many years.
In 2012 the decision was made to sell the Boston Convent and the Sisters built a new, sustainable, energy effiicient Convent in Duxbury and became became permanent, year-round residents. Currently the Sisters live in Dorchester, Duxbury, Haiti, and New York City, and serve in hospitals, teach chldren, work with young adults, lead retreats, preach, work in inter-city parishes and with migrant workers, and visit the elderly, the sick, and homebound.
The Sisters endeavor to live a balanced life of active work and contemplative prayer. The Eucharist and our daily prayer, both individually and corporately, are at the heart of our lives. The community is always ready to share its life with those who seek to come closer to God.
Our ages range from thirty-six to ninety-seven, and our members come from all walks of life including former schoolteachers, nurses, artists, musicians, and administrators. We are a multi-cultural community with Sisters from Haiti, Canada, and Tortola. Three Sisters are ordained priests in the Episcopal Church.
if you would like to share in our worship, visit the Convent, or have questions, please do not hesitate to call us at 781-934-9477 x 701. We look forward to hearing from you.

Come Lord Jesus!
Lord Jesus, master of both the light and the darkness, send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations for Christmas. We who have so much to do seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day. We who are anxious over many things look forward to your coming among us. We who are blessed in so many ways long for the complete joy of your kingdom. We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence. We are your people, walking in darkness, yet seeking the light. To you we say, "Come Lord Jesus!"
