His personal testimony states: “I am Blessed despite my shortcomings. The very least I can do is serve God through my personal sacrifice. Reverend Bailey’s favorite verse of Scripture is Psalms 119:11 – “Thy word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not Sin against Thee.” Reverend Bailey is rooted in the Holy Scriptures, believes that the Word of God has special power (Hebrews 4: 2), and should be studied diligently (2 Timothy 2:15) through prayer and meditation.   Edit

Victory Temple Missionary Baptist Church History

As a result of a fire shortly after the founding of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, and under the leadership of Reverend Lelan Warring, the congregation worked diligently to erect their first edifice on September 26, 1865. The Cornerstone for the second edifice, was laid on August 1, 1891, under the leadership of Reverend Henry H. Warring, son of the ailing Reverend Lelan Warring, and the building completed on October 1, 1893. This edifice is located at 1401 Duke Street, Alexandria, Virginia. From October 1893 through October 1988, the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church had a number of Pastors, who were great leaders. The list includes Reverend McKee (1914 – 1917), Reverend J. H. Marshall (1917 – 1924), Reverend Frank E. Herns (1924 – 1944; died in office), Reverend Stevenson (1946 – 1947) and Reverend M. William Beasley (1947 – 1986).

The Reverend Robert Lewis Taylor was called to Pastor the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in October 1988. He was the ninth Pastor to serve the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. In the spring of 1993, after the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church congregation grew from 200 members in 1988 to more than 1300, the Sunday worship services were moved from 1401 Duke Street, to George Washington Middle School, Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia.

On July 3, 1994, after almost a year of differences within the church, a division took place, thereby creating two groups worshipping under the name of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (one located at George Washington Middle School and the other at 1401 Duke Street). On October 19, 1995, the George Washington Middle School group selected Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church as its name and the process of church growth and spiritual renewal continued.

Reverend Taylor resigned as Pastor of the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church on January 26, 1998 and, between the period of January 26, 1998 through December 16, 1998, Reverend Dr. Tom A. Bailey, Reverend John D. Grady, Reverend Morris Oliver, Evangelist Ruth Bellfield, Evangelist Lucretia Stewart, and Minister Adrian Smith, the Sons and Daughters of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, assisted the Deacons in maintaining a beacon of light for all who sought our Lord and Savior, until the church called a pastor. During that same period (March 1998), the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church moved its worship services to the Charles Barrett Elementary School, 1115 Martha Curtis Drive, Alexandria, Virginia.

The Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church was organized as a Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, September 18, 1998, with the Reverend Dr. Daniel L. Brown, Pastor of Third Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia and President of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Alexandria and vicinity, serving as Moderator. In attendance were Reverend Johnnie Abram, Pastor of Harvest Assembly Baptist Church and Conference Vice-President, and Reverend Augustus Henderson, Pastor of Christian Way Baptist Church and Conference Secretary.
