Who we are
Wendouree Baptist Church is a local gathering of followers of Jesus from a wide variety of backgrounds, experiences and age ranges.
We desire to encourage each other in our journey of faith and are seeking to be a positive influence in our communities by reflecting Jesus in both word and deed as we experience and express God’s love and grace. We do this through a number of avenues the most noticeable being our Sunday times of gathering, in our Home/Small Groups and through our “Fifth Sundays of the Month” where we seek to interact with and serve our communities more intentionally.
Our goal as a Church is to be an authentic, responsive Christian community as we seek to respond to God, to each other and to the communities we are part of. We are part of the Baptist movement (a member of the Baptist Union of Victoria and nationally part of the Baptist Union of Australia), a group of Christian Churches who have a broadly similar view on things and who voluntarily unite for mutual accountability and support as well as for the capacity to do things we could not do on our own as an individual Church Community.
Baptists have a number of unique perspectives on things. One of the most obvious is that each local Church is free, under God, to respond to the directions they believe the Holy Spirit is leading them in – this accounts for some of the wide diversity expressed within the Baptist family of Churches.
Some of the other key things we hold as very important are: the priesthood of all believers, the importance of the Bible in conveying God’s word to us, the need for all people to respond personally in faith, freedom of belief and the role we all share in fulfilling the purposes God has for His Church.
We practice baptism of believers, usually by immersion, as a sign and symbol of our new life in Jesus. We also celebrate in sharing in Communion (or what some refer to as the Lord’s Supper) when we remember what Jesus has done for us. We invite everyone who loves Jesus, regardless of age or Church background, to share in this time with us.
Baptists see ourselves as one part of the world wide Christian community and we would want to freely associate with people of all Christian perspectives in encouraging each other and contributing to the life, ministry, and witness of the whole Christian Church through our own distinctive “flavour”.

Quote of the Day
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
