Early Sunday morning October 9th 2016, a fire destroyed Wesley Chapel Church at 6880 Jefferson Avenue. The church, which dates back roughly a century, had already been in disuse after suffering damage during an EF-3 tornado in February.

The fire Sunday destroyed what was left of the building.

The church's congregation has been conducting services at the Council on Aging of West Florida's senior center in Century since the tornado.
