Who we are
Westminster is a church family that is a little over 50 years old. That may seem pretty old to you, but in comparison to many other congregations, Presbyterian and otherwise, it is a fairly young congregation.
Here is a thumbnail sketch of our history. The congregation was organized in December, 1954 in response to the need for a new Presbyterian church on the west side of Aurora, which was then growing by leaps and bound. John Hall was the organizing pastor and the first few years were spent worshiping at Freeman Elementary School. In October, 1958, the congregation moved to its current location with the completion of the sanctuary project. A new wing was added to accommodate growth in 1962, and the newest addition was completed in 2003. The church has been served by four pastors over its lifetime, with Pastor Chuck Legvold the most recent, arriving in February, 2004. The church family has also been blessed with many faithful and gifted staff members— musicians, associate pastors, program directors, administrators and custodians—all of whom have made a positive contribution to the work of Westminster.
Any church history, though, should be seen more in mission than in events, buildings or even leaders. The fact that Westminster continues to share the love of Jesus with our community is due to the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit and those faithful people who are willing to trust and obey His voice. This simply means that the history of Westminster Presbyterian Church is not by any means complete, and that its best years lie in the future.

I want Thy plan, O God
I want Thy plan, O God, for my life. May I be happy and contented whether in the homeland or on the foreign field; whether married or alone, in happiness or sorrow, health or sickness, prosperity or adversity - I want Thy plan, O God, for my life. I want it; oh, I want it.
