Willowdale Seventh-day Adventist Church History
A Brief History of Willowdale SDA Church
We’re a big church in a big city. Like Toronto, we’re also a little bit of the world, having come here from many places. The Bible calls us pilgrims-travellers who are only passing through this world on our way to a heavenly home.
As Seventh-day Adventist Christians our roots go back to the worldwide spiritual awakening of the mid-18th century that expected Christ’s coming then. We still believe He’s coming. In fact, we anticipate our Saviour’s return any time now. While we wait, He’s given us work to do We serve Him by sharing our hope in His soon-coming and encouraging one another along the way.
Formed more than sixty years ago, our congregation has undergone many changes. Once closely identified with North York Branson Hospital and Toronto Junior Academy, we still share a common campus with them, but both institutions have new identities of their own. TJA, now Crawford Adventist Academy, provides K-12 Christian education as part of the Toronto Adventist District School Board. In 1998, Branson became a division of North York General Hospital.
Today our multi-cultural congregation is a microcosm of the international Seventh-day Adventist family of over thirteen million.
Our motto, United in Christ, takes its inspiration from an ancient Christian illustration. The words of one author invite us to,
Picture a large circle, from the edge of which are many lines all running to the center. The nearer these lines approach the center, the nearer they are to one another. Thus it is in the Christian life. The closer we come to Christ, the nearer we shall be to one another.

Forgive us
O God, forgive the poverty and the pettiness of our prayers . Listen not to our words but to the yearnings of our hearts. Hear beneath our petitions the crying of our need.
